As per the sources, an Asiatic lion will be transferred from Shri Venkateshwar Zoological Park in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh under the wildlife exchange programme to the Lucknow Zoo because a famous lion named Prithvi died in Lucknow Zoo. The lion had been at the Lucknow Zoo since 2015, officials said. This programme will help Lucknow Zoo to meet the recent loss of Lion Prithvi​​​​​.

Lion Prithvi, the 17-year-old Asiatic lion, had been at the Lucknow Zoo Since 2015. Lion Prithvi at Lucknow Zoo died due to failing health conditions. He had been unwell for the past three weeks and the cause of death was attributed to cardio respiratory failure and his age. Prithvi Lion was a famous lion in India. He was also the pride of Lucknow Zoo. Lion Prithvi had four cubs with lioness Vasundhara. Currently, this zoo has three lionesses.

The Lucknow Zoo authorities have received a no-objection certificate (NOC) from Shri Venkateshwar Zoological Park in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh. The final approvals from the Central Zoo Authority are awaited.

An awareness rally

Meanwhile, an awareness rally was organized at the Nawab Wajid Ali Shah Zoological Garden on Wednesday as part of two-day celebrations of World Lion Day to be celebrated on Thursday. There are many experts taking part in the rally. One of them seeing in the rally was dressed up in an Asiatic lion costume and explained how a lion lives in the jungle and other importance of lions to the visitors who advent to this rally which was taken out on Wednesday at the Nawab Wajid Ali Shah Zoological Garden.
