15 Great Women Freedom Fighters Of India
We are having a list of names of men who were freedom fighters but we can't remember any name apart from Sarojini Naidu when talked about freedom fighters. Freedom is an essential thing and we had achieved it through their efforts and men were not alone in the struggle these women were equally involved and had made a remarkable contribution. Some names that from now onwards will add to your list of freedom fighters are given below.
Queen of Jhansi Lakshmibai
Queen of Jhansi Lakshmibai is the synonym for the bravery. She became queen of Jhansi after the sudden dismissal of her husband Gangadhar Rao. She was involved in a revolution against the British.
Sarojini Naidu
Sarojini Naidu was famous for her poetry and known for her work as a politician. She was elected for the president ship of the Indian National Congress. She was the leader of plenty of movements held against the British government including the Satyagraha.

Kasturba Gandhi
Kasturba Gandhi was the wife of Mahatma Gandhi and involved in many revolutionary activities since Mahatma Gandhi was in South Africa. She was also imprisoned for the leadership of Women’s Satyagraha.
Aruna Asaf Ali
Aruna Asaf Ali joined the Congress party after getting married to a leader Asaf Ali. She was involved in plenty of revolutions including the Salt Movement and became the political prisoner. In the year 1997 she was awarded by Bharat Ratna after her dismissal in 1996.
Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit
Vijaya Lakshami Pandit was the sister of Jawahar Lal Nehru and she was truly inspired by Rani Lakshmibai and Sarojini Naidu. She was sent to jail two for her involvement in Non Cooperation Movement and Quit India Movement. She was the first lady who became the president of the UN Assembly.
TARA RANI SRIVASTAVA
The struggle for independence left her with a life of a widow but she didn't stop there and struggled throughout to achieve independence for the country. Independence was not a single man's move but was collective efforts of these people together. Her husband died in her presence as they both were marching for independence and She was shot dead.
MOOLMATI
Mother of Ram Prasad Bismil who was hanged till death by British Raj for the charge according to them in Manipuri Conspiracy and Kakori conspiracy. He was a true freedom fighter as was martyred. She continued her struggle even after losing his son. She assured him before he died that she was proud to have him as her son. She belongs to a very simple family yet is the name to get recognition in the books of history that talk about freedom struggle and freedom fighters.

BI AMMAN
Abadi Bano Begum was her full name and even behind her burka was a voice that talked about freedom and contribution of all towards the effort in which she and her family were working. A mother who can ask his son to go and fight for the motherland when she herself was standing behind him as a shield. She never went out of the home before this session but was confident enough to address a crowd in the city of Lucknow.
BEGUM HAZRAT MAHAL
The most rebellion personality in 1850's was the wife of Nawab Wajid Ali, Begum Hazrat Mahal. She took the charge of his dynasty of Oudh after he died. she was a heroic personality and then lost control of Lucknow as well but at the end died in Nepal.
SUCHETA KRIPLANI
The first Indian woman to become a chief minister was Sucheta Kriplani. She was the one to sing Vande Mataram on 15 August 1947. She had played a very important role in carrying Gandhiji's principles after him and also by helping him and assisting him during the freedom struggle and riots of independence.
BHIKAJI CAMA
A name that has many roads and street named after her. A lady that was standing for women equality, gender equality and has represented India in foreign nations too. She was a giver and had done so much for India's independence.
RAJ KUMARI GUPTA
She was in support of Chandrashekhar Azad and also carried the messaged for revolutionaries and during that one day was caught and resulting in that was disowned by her in-laws. That's sad even they were Indian and slave to British Raj.
KAMALA DEVI CHATTOPADHYAY
Apart from being a theatre artist, she was the first Indian woman to get arrested for her support towards the revolutionaries and patriotic leaders. She was a total package of a lady that has a great role to be displayed as being herself. She worked in support of theatre and handicraft. She was a struggling with many socio-economic issues.
LAKSHMI SAHGAL
Former army officer and the founder and leader of rani of Jhansi régime. This lady has worked for our country like a pillar. She even caught hold and was a prison in Burma for her role in world war II but later returned back and joined Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose to contribute to the struggle for freedom.
DURGABAI DESHMUKH
She led many satyagraha movements and supported the use of khadi by exhibiting it. She was a great freedom fighter and played an important role in the struggle for independence. She later was a part of the constitutional assembly.
PARBATI GIRI
Also known as Mother Terresa of western Orissa. Even at the age of sixteen, she knew that her ultimate aim is to achieve independence for the country and she worked towards that only. She was even imprisoned for two years during her struggle days and later served as a social server after the independence.
VELU NACHIYAR
The first to start a war against the British was this lady. She was a queen and she knew that British had wrong intentions for India and later she proved to be true.
BHOGESWARI PHUKANANI
Bharbhuj was her contribution to the struggle for independence. She was the mother of eight and asked her all the children to fight for the struggle. She had contributed to the freedom riots and was an ordinary housewife with a different thought for the motherland. Her contribution is still remembered and she gained respect after getting martyred.
KANAKLATA BARNA
Also known as Birbal from Assam. Quit India moment had a squad that triggered self-death and she was part of it. She died while struggling for independence as was shot dead by a British soldier. Quit India moment had many contributors and one of them was this lady with a very brave heart.
MATANGINI HAZRA
She marched with the slogan of independence and Vande Mataram was the line. She was shot dead while serving for quit India moment and her contribution is recognized by all.
All of these ladies were brave as well had a single aim that they achieved collectively. Their efforts gave us what is today the most important thing " INDEPENDENCE". A life can never be valued if it is not a free one. Freedom gives wings and they are the one to gift all of us those. Their struggle, their efforts, their thoughts that got execution by them was all we required to call ourselves as an independent person. Name of man is on our tips but each woman mentioned above has equal credit as the not only man by the woman too gave their lives to achieve independence.
