On 12 December 2017 government through the ministry of information and broadcasting strictly asked the Tv channels not to air any ads selling or promoting condoms because as per them they were indecent especially for children. According to the sources, the ministry of information and broadcast made the official statement that some channels repeatedly featured advertisement of condoms that are alleged to be indecent for children.

An advisory from the ministry quoted the cable television networking rules of 1994. The rules ban the broadcasting of any such which endangers the safety of children or create among children any interest in unhealthy practices or shows them in any form in undignified or indecent manner. Thus all tv channels were ‘advised' strictly by the ministry not to telecast the ads of condoms which are meant for particular age group and are inappropriate/ not advisable for the children. Further, these ads were claimed to be indecent vulgar suggestive or repulsive.

Such ads could only be broadcasted between 10 pm to 6 am, also if failing to comply will warrant actions as per broadcasting rules. The decision was taken after Advertising Standards Council Of India (ASCI), requested the ministry to take actions against such ads.

The news above is the summary of the ban and the reasons for the ban on condoms ads between 6 am to 10 pm. Is there anyone who feels that this is a sane decision; I mean what exactly we are trying to prove by banning the condom's ads. No wonder eight out of 10 girls still hesitate to purchase a condom from a local store. In the era where in world is becoming more connected and the information is readily available on the net, we are heading pre-1940s.  Condoms ads bannedvia: images.assettype.com

Sex education should be on the rise not banning of the ads. If the ads happen to be indecent we need to ban that particular ad and not the entire series of ads for that product. I am sure we can find a decent way which is not inappropriate for selling condoms. A simple product like the nonaerated drink can be featured in a way that leaves you wondering what the f was the ad about, remember the Gamasutra ad by kat, if that passed the eyes I am sure we can have better ways of selling condoms.

Do think about this which is better an underage unwanted pregnancy of an underage girl seeking condom.
