Dev Anand or actual name Dharam Devdutt Pishorimal Anand (26 September 1923 – 3 December 2011), was an iconic Indian film actor, he was also a versatile writer, director, producer, and comedian well known for his work in Indian cinema.

Dev Anand was born on 26 September 1923 in the Shakargarh tehsil of the Gurdaspur district in Punjab during the rule of British rule in India. His father Pishori Lal Anand was a successful advocate in Gurdaspur District Court. Dev Anand had two elder and one younger brother. His older brothers were Manmohan Anand who was also an advocate and Chetan Anand and the younger brother was Vijay Anand.Dev Anand

‘Dev Saab' as he was popularly known as played the Lead Actor for more than five decades and acted in over 110 films; Dev Anand still continues to straddle Indian Cinema today. He has given a new statement to that charmed state of Stardom. For his exemplary work, he was presented the Padma Bhushan in 2001 by the President of India. From the time he was on board on his career as a Film Artist starting the 1940s till now, his movies have been a journey filled with heartening proficiencies for the 'Evergreen Legend' of Indian Cinema.

Dev Anand has won two Filmfare Honors one in 1958 for his splendid enactment in the film Kala Paani and the second one in the year 1966 for his exceptional work for the movie Guide. The movie Guide later went on to triumph five Filmfare Awards in various categories l, which includes Best Film and Best Director. A guide was subsequently sent as India's entry for the Oscars in the foreign film category that year. Eventually, his creativity could hold no bars and he started writing and directing his own movies.

Dev Anand departed in his sleep after an impulsive cardiac arrest. Paramedics reached the site but were unable to recover him. He stays alive through his wife, Kalpana, his son, Suniel; and daughter, Devina. On 10 December 2011, he was cremated in West London's Putney Vale Crematorium. His relics were brought back to India and immersed in the Godavari River. He was 88 at the time of his demise. ​​​​​​​Dev Anand
