History of Father’s Day.

Similar to Mother’s Day Father’s day has a history that is beyond greeting cards.

The first observed Father’s day happened at the Williams Memorial Methodist Episcopal Church South of Fairmont, in West Virginia on July 5th of 1908. Thanking the efforts of Grace Clayton. Mrs. Clayton had asked her Pastor, Dr. R. Thomas Webb if the Sunday could be held to respect fathers.

Mrs. Clayton especially required to start a service in remembrance of around 200 fathers that died in the Monongah mining explosion this incident left around 1000 children fatherless.

Though Fairmont service was the opening known to honor fathers, it didn’t develop into an annual event, Nor it was an idea promoted at large,
