Kanshi Ram (1934-2006) Founder and National president of the Bahujan Samaj Party

Bahujan Nayak was born on 15 March 1934 and left us all on 9 October 2006. He worked for upliftment and protection of the untouchable group. The founder of Dalit Shoshit Samaj Sabgharsh Samiti and later Bahujan Samaj Party. He was chief minister of Uttar Pradesh for four terms with Bahujan Samaj Party. He was a Dalit and had to face discrimination due to the practice of untouchability in India during those days. His target was to gain the vote of the Dalits and other backward class and in this journey, Mayawati helped him a lot.

He had always targeted the Congress and BJP for worsening the conditions of the Dalits in India. He also wrote a book in this context. He was the one to strengthen his voice against the concept of untouchability practiced by the people of India. He made it the motive that he wanted to serve this class and provide them equality in terms of being the citizen of India. He had his thoughts very straight as never came to support opponent and criticized them to be corrupt.

He announces to get himself converted to Buddhism along with twenty lakh followers to do the same but sadly he died before that. But Mayawati was his successor and she did justice to his words and converted with the masses to Buddhism.
Throughout his life, he had suffered a lot not only mentally but physically as well. He was a diabetic patient and suffered heart attack followed by an arterial clot in the brain and a stroke too. He died due to a severe heart attack. As he had demanded his funeral was as per Buddhist tradition. The country felt the loss and everyone was really dishearten for his passing away. A man that had given birth to a party that was only for Dalits and never moved away from his target to gain recognition for them and had a great political journey. His vision was always respected as a social reformer and he had a great instinct of the reality of Indian politics which is still regarded.
