Kapil Dev is the well-known name in World of Cricket. He is an icon for Captains' of Indian Cricket Team. He is known for leading the Indian Cricket team in 1983 World Cup when Indian team won the title for the very first time.
Kapil Dev was born on January 6, 1959, in Chandigarh, Punjab. He started playing cricket in school and later on in domestic cricket, he played in Haryana team in 1975 in which he took 6 wickets. In 1976-77 he played against Jammu and Kashmir where he took 8 wickets followed by 7 wickets against Bengal. His energetic performance, as well as his bowling, made the place for him in matches of Irani, Duleep and Wills Trophy. He proved himself as an all-rounder.
He played his first International match in 1978 against Pakistan. In 1979, while playing against West Indies he proved to be one of the finest players. He scored his first maiden century and also took 17 wickets. His popularity kept on growing with each passing match. He was made captain in 1982-83. No one believed that India would give such a spectacular performance and would beat West Indies in the finals. He even captained Indian Cricket team during1987 World Cup. Indian reached semi-finals.
Kapil Dev played his last match in 1994 and retired with a record of 434 wickets which were the highest number of wickets at that time. He coached Indian Cricket Team for some time. He took retirement from the game after some controversy. He returned back as a coach in 2004 where he trained bowlers for their game against Pakistan. For 2 years he was chairman of National Cricket Academy. Later on, in 2007 he joined ICL- Indian Cricket League as Chairman and resigned in 2012.
He joined Indian Territorial Army as an honorary officer and was commissioned as Lieutenant Colonel on September 24, 2008. He has written three books which are based on his life and experiences. He has been awarded Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan.
Kapil Dev has played the cameo in movies like Iqbal and Mujhse Shadi Karogi. Kapil Dev is a living legend and an inspiration for many people.
