"The Venus of Indian Cinema" and "The Beauty with Tragedy" WAS BORN ON VALENTINES DAY ON 14 February 1933. Her life was a beautiful curse and she had a struggling childhood as well. Her three sisters and two brothers die at the age of five and six and when she was eleven a dock explosive of fire wiped out their small house and the family survived as they were not at home at that time.
She made her debut with Basant and it was a box office hit and she was nine years old at that time. She had her first lead when she was fourteen in Neel Kamal. Started with Mahal she had many milestones to be achieved namely Dulari, Beqasoor, Tarana, Badal, etc. American magazine Theatre Arts claimed her as the biggest star in the world and that was her Hollywood recognition as she had shown her interest in Hollywood earlier too.
Academy writer and American director were ready to give her a break in Hollywood but her father declined the offer. Mughal-e-Azam was the film that gave her the recognition that still is attached to her name. She got many roles but she was chosen as she searched for the challenge in that role of real acting. She had a secretive life and was not a social bee. She had no friends, not allowed visiting any party or premiers, her father was very protective of her. Just to look at her or just have her glance was the reason for the crowd outside the gate of her film sets. She had a relationship with Dilip Kumar but they couldn't get married and just to prove him that she can get any man she wants she married Kishore Kumar whom she didn't even know properly.

Her illness was the cause for her depression or her depression was the cause of her illness and she left this world on 23 February 1969 when she was only 36 years old due to the hole in her heart.
