Natalie Portman feels regretted signing the appeal in support of Roman Polanski.

In 1997, the moviemaker was charged with five counts of illegal love making association next to a 13-year-old. As he faced possible sentence and extradition, he flees to France in 1978 where he couldn’t be extradited.

On 26 September 2009, the director was under arrest and held whilst in Switzerland at the demand of US administration. Portman was one of a figure of Hollywood  - counting Martin Scorsese, Woody Allen, and Emma Thompson - who signed an appeal calling for his freedom.

Polanski was imprisoned in Switzerland for two months, prior being put beneath home capture at his home in Gstaad; Swiss establishment finally discarded the demand for extradition, releasing Polanski from detention.

Portman declared that she intensely regrets signing the appeal, adding: “I take liability for not viewing it adequately. Somebody I appreciated gave it to me, and said, ‘I signed this. Will you also?” And I resembled, sure. It was a fault.”

“The obsession I feel like I added from it is sympathy towards natives who have made blunders. We lived in a diverse world, and that doesn’t forgive anything. But you can have your eyes opened and totally change the way you want to exist. My eyes were not open.”
