Love can make you do anything. Dharmendra's actions are like that only, he changed his religion to get married to Hema. The reason behind this was the refusal by his first wife to give him the divorce.

As per Islam, you can have three legal marriages and so they did that, without getting divorced he got married to another lady. Hindu law prohibits multiple marriages but Islam allows so he got himself converted.

The conversion is merely for the sake of legal exemption to marry the other woman as he is not practicing any religious practice and he is not against it but he follows his own religion.

A woman is shattered when her husband just leaves her alone and starts a fresh family, so was Dharmendra's first wife, she was shattered and didn't want him to break their family, they had two sons as well.   

Later, he started his new family although he stays with both the families equally but still she is sharing him with Hema. The love triangle in which Hema was stuck took her to this new family breaker image but she is cool and calm as she has accepted his concern towards his responsibilities of both the families.   

Newspaper of the year 1974 had the coverage of all the related scenes of this marriage and the affected people but Dharmendra's wife never came forward to talk about her pain and kept quiet. Hema Malini was never accused by her in public and vice-versa.

Love is strange and life becomes difficult when we choose a path that is more difficult to be walked on. People move on but these three can never move on as the relationship was changed and a new family was born in the ashes of a broken and burnt family.
