As per the Birth and death Regulation act 2012, it is now mandatory to obtain a birth and death certificate, without which the occurrence will not be recognized. What exactly it means is that as per latest acts and regulations of Indian government, the government will refuse to recognize your child not only as Indian citizen, but also refuse to have been born ever if there is no birth certificate. Hence it is mandatory today to have a birth certificate.

 

Documents needed

1.Filled up registration form.

2.Parent’s birth certificates.

3.Marriage certificate of the parents.

4.Proof of birth letter in hospital.

5.Parents' identity proof (for verification).

Step 1- Get a birth Certificate Registration Form from the registrar’s office (from your municipal authority).

 

Step 2- When your child is born in a hospital, the form is available with Medical Officer In-charge.

 

Step 3- Fill in the form with your child details and submit it within 21 days of birth of the child.

 

Step 4- If the form is not submitted within 21 days of your child’s birth, then the birth certificate is issued after police verification.

 

Step 5- Once the verification of the form is done by the registrar, birth certificate is issued to the applicant.

 

Step 6- after 7 days of submission of form, the birth certificate is issued by municipal authority.

 

Step 7- Alternatively a self-addressed envelope can be submitted at the municipality office, the birth certificate is then posted to the respective address within 7–14 working days.
