The 2007 ICC T20 Cricket World Cup was played in South Africa from 11 September to 24 September 2007. The final match played between India and Pakistan on 24 September 2007 in which India won the ICC T20 World Cup by defeating opposite team Pakistan by five runs. Led by MS Dhoni, India made history by winning the first-ever ICC T20 World Cup in 2007. This was the first-ever Twenty20 International Cricket World Championship, which India won. In the final match of this cricket championship, the Indian team scored 157 runs with five wickets loss and won the title by a margin of five runs against Pakistan. Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan was named the player of the match, while Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi was awarded the player of the series.

Two years later, the second ICC T20 World Cup was played in England from 5 June 2009 to 21 June 2009. Pakistan cricket team won the final match with eight wickets by defeating Sri Lanka at Lord's Cricket Ground on 21 June 2009. The Pakistan Cricket Team became the second team who win the title of ICC Men's T20 World Cup after India. In the final match of the 2009 T20 World Cup, Sri Lanka scored 138 runs at six wickets loss in twenty overs, while Pakistan scored 139 runs at only 2 wickets loss and won the title by eight wickets. The player of the match was named Shahid Afridi (Pak), while the player of the series was named Tillakaratne Dilshan (SL).

The 2010 ICC T20 Cricket World Cup was conducted and played in the West Indies from 30 April 2010 to 16 May 2010. The final match of this tournament was played between two big teams England and Australia. England won the first-ever title of the ICC T20 World Cup by defeating Australia by seven wickets. The Australian Cricket Team scored 147 runs with a six-wicket loss, while the England Cricket Team scored 148 runs with only a three-wicket loss and won the final match in 2007. The player of the match was named Craig Kieswetter (ENG) because he scored 63 runs in 49 balls.

The final match of this T20 World Cup was played between the Sri Lanka Cricket Team and the West Indies Cricket Team at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on 7 October 2012. West Indies won the first-ever T20 World Cup at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo by defeating hosts Team Sri Lanka by 36 runs. In the 2012 ICC T20 World Cup final, West Indies made 137 runs with a six-wicket loss, while Sri Lanka scored only 101 runs and lost the title of T20 World Cup. Marlon Samuels (WI) was the player of the match because of his all-rounder performance in the final.

Sri Lanka made history after winning the first-ever ICC T20 Cricket World Cup against India in 2014. The 2014 ICC T20 Men's World Cup was conducted and played in Bangladesh from 16 March to 6 April 2014. In this World Cup, 16 cricket teams participated and two teams India and Sri Lanka qualified for the final. The 2014 T20 World Cup final was played between India and Sri Lanka in which Sri Lanka won the final by six wickets versus India. India scored 130 runs at the four-wicket loss, while Sri Lanka made 134 runs with a four-wicket loss and won the first-ever title. In this tournament, Virat Kohli (India) was named the player of the series because he scored 319 runs in this tournament.

West Indies won the second ICC T20 World Cup in 2016 against England. The 2016 T20 World Cup was the 6th edition hosted by India from 8 March to 3 April 2016. The final of the 2016 Twenty20 International Cricket World Championship was conducted at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on 3 April 2016. West Indies and England qualified for the final of this tournament and West Indies won the second time title of the ICC T20 World Cup 2016 by defeating England by four wickets. The 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup final was played at Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai, UAE, on 14 November 2021. The final of this T20 International Tournament was played between Australia and New Zealand where Australia won the final by eight wickets.
